Today, Monday July 20th 2009, marks the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission, more commonly known as the Moon Landing. It was on today that families huddled around their televisions and got a glimpse of history, as Niel Armstrong became the first man to set foot on the moon. The Moon Landing was a major moment in mankind’s history. Man had finally journeyed past low-Earth orbit and into space, officially exploring a new frontier.
Today names like Niel Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin are famous in all households. The Apollo missions, five other shuttles reached the moon after Apollo 11, live on in fame. They inspired a generation of people and make astronaut a profession that many dreamed to become. The moon landing was a truly remarkable step in our potential as a species.
